Fraser, Barry J. – School Science and Mathematics, 1980
Reports an investigation into the relationship between student attitudes and teacher characteristics. Instructional and student variables are reported as insignificant predictors of changes in attitudes. Significant relationships exist between attitude outcome change and one of the teacher, instruction-student or instruction-teacher variables.…

Fraser, Barry J. – Science Education, 1978
Describes improvements and extensions made to a battery of the five attitude scales for science teaching to form a seven-scale Test of Science-Related Attitudes (TOSRA). (GA)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Attitudes, Behavior, Evaluation

Fraser, Barry J. – Australian Science Teachers Journal, 1976
Compares 1,547 aims of science education culled from the literature to the 33 aims of the Australian Science Education Project (ASEP). Places aims into 11 categories, then calculates proportion of total aims fafalling into each category. Rank correlation of literature aims and ASEP aims was 0.90. (MLH)

Fraser, Barry J. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1978
Explores the relationship between a set of science-related attitudinal outcomes and student perceptions of the classroom learning environment. The attitudinal outcomes investigated were student attitude to four sources of information: experiments, experts, books, and teachers. (Author/GA)
Descriptors: Attitudes, Classroom Environment, Educational Research, Individual Characteristics

Koop, Anthony J.; Fraser, Barry J. – Australian Mathematics Teacher, 1978
From a set of history of mathematics materials, a play and an article were selected for evaluation through opinions of experts, survey of teachers, and changes in students' affective and cognitive outcomes. (MP)
Descriptors: Attitudes, Educational Research, Evaluation, Instruction

Fraser, Barry J. – School Science and Mathematics, 1981
Relationships between socioeconomic status and proficiency at enquiry skills important in science education are explored. The relationships are found to be sufficiently strong to cause concern among science teachers. It is noted enquiry skills can be taught and suggests that teachers do so for pupils with low proficiency. (MP)

Fraser, Barry J. – Australian Science Teachers Journal, 1976
Forty-six seventh grade science classes in Australia were tested before and after using Australian Science Education Project (ASEP) curriculum units. Significant improvements were found for 15 of 17 educational objectives related to inquiry skills and attitudes. (MLH)

Tobin, Kenneth; Fraser, Barry J. – Australian Journal of Education, 1988
A comparison of three exemplary teachers and colleagues from the same schools found that the exemplary teachers used effective classroom management strategies, a range of whole-class, small-group, and seatwork activities, kept students on task, and monitored student understanding of content, in contrast to their colleagues. (Author/MSE)

Fraser, Barry J. – Australian Science Teachers Journal, 1976
Ten Australian seventh-grade classes using Australian Science Education Project (ASEP) materials and ten control classes were administered the Science Class Inventory to determine classroom climate. results showed that the ASEP students underwent more favorable changes in their enjoyment of science classes. (MLH)

Fraser, Barry J.; Koop, Anthony J. – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1978
A questionnaire survey was used to gauge the opinions of mathematics teachers about some history of mathematics materials recently developed for use in the classroom. Teachers' opinions of the materials were generally favorable, but a sizeable proportion responded that they would not use the material in their own teaching. (Author/MN)
Descriptors: Instructional Materials, Mathematical Enrichment, Mathematics Education, Mathematics History

Fraser, Barry J. – Australian Science Teachers Journal, 1977
Reports on the adaptation of a scale previously used to measure attitude toward the social implications of science among college students for use with secondary students. Upon use with seventh graders, scores obtained on the social implications scale correlated significantly with pupil socioeconomic status and with a number of learning environment…

Fraser, Barry J. – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1977
Evaluative information was collected about a history of mathematics project consisting of a play about Thales and an article about the history of conics. Methods included obtaining unstructured opinions of five experts, questionnaire responses from 39 teachers, and results of a test of affective and cognitive outcomes of 117 students. (CTM)
