Richey, David D.; McKinney, James D. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1978
The classroom behavior of 15 learning disabled (LD) third and fourth grade boys was compared to that of 15 matched normal Ss to determine differences in behavioral style and to examine LD Ss' behavior in different classroom environments. (Author/CL)

McKinney, James D.; Feagans, Lynne – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1983
The article reviews research on classroom behavior of learning disabled elementary school students. Topics covered include students' attention and hyperactivity, teacher-child interactions, teachers' perceptions, and the relationship between classroom behavior and achievement. McKinney, James D.; Feagans, Lynne – Learning Disability Quarterly, 1984
Results of the study over three years show that LD children fall progressively farther behind their normal peers in reading comprehension. In math, they stay relatively the same distance below their peers. The LD Ss' behavior is suboptimal for classroom learning, with less on-task and more off-task behavior. (Author/CL)

McKinney, James D.; And Others – Learning Disability Quarterly, 1982
Teacher ratings and observational data were gathered on 22 pairs of learning disabled (LD) and non-LD children in the second and fourth grades in an effort to compare their task-oriented, social, and affective behavior patterns in regular class settings. (Author)

McKinney, James D.; Clifford, Miriam – 1973
The classroom behavior and academic achievement of 32 educable retarded children (EMR) with a mean age of 11.24 years were studied in two types of open classrooms, graded and multi-age, and compared to that in a special education class. The three different instructional environments were found to generate characteristically different patterns of…

McKinney, James D. – Psychology in the Schools, 1975
Four second-grade teachers completed the Classroom Behavior Inventory for every student in their class (N=101). Subjects were classified as either reflective (N=32) or impulsive (N=32) by using the Matching Familiar Figures Test (MFF). (Author)

McKinney, James D.; Forman, Susan G. – Journal of School Psychology, 1982
Investigated whether classroom teachers could differentiate among educable mentally handicapped (EMH), learning disabled (LD), and emotionally handicapped (EH) students based on perceptions of classroom behavior patterns. Ratings from classroom behavior inventory scales revealed that EMH students were distinguished by low intelligence, creativity,…

McKinney, James D. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1989
A three-year study found that children with learning disabilities displayed a persistent pattern of maladaptive classroom behavior that distinguished them from average achievers and was associated with continued underachievement, especially for attention and conduct problem subtypes. The developmental relationship between learning disabilities,…

This study investigated the relationship between learning styles, classroom behaviors, ability levels, and academic achievement in an open classroom kindergarten setting. Thirty subjects were selected (ten children from each of the 4-, 5-, and 6-year-old groups). Each child was tested on the following measures: Matching Familiar Figures (MMF);…

McKinney, James D.; And Others – Learning Disabilities Research and Practice, 1993
The Carolina Longitudinal Learning Disabilities Project identified 42 first- and second-grade students with learning disabilities (LD) and compared their development over 5 years with that of randomly selected peers. Different variables were predictive for the two groups. Teacher perceptions of intelligence, measured intelligence quotient, grade…

McKinney, James D.; And Others – 1977
This is the final report on a three year project designed to investigate the development of problem-solving strategies in elementary school children. In this project the personality of the child as it is reflected in problem solving style is examined. The hybothesis that reflective children are more competent problem solvers than impulsive…
