Project RETAIN (Retention in Education Technical Assistance and Information Network) is a Florida project that assists school districts through identification and dissemination of effective practices that keep students with mild disabilities in school. One part of the project was the development of a database of school district efforts in the area of dropout prevention programs. The database provides information to practitioners, administrators, agency personnel, parents, policymakers, and other interested professionals. Data for the dropout prevention database were derived from descriptive materials of dropout prevention programming collected from districts across the state. Materials received from 45 of Florida's 67 school districts were analyzed and entered into the database. Contents of the database have been organized into a dissemination format which includes: (1) a cover page (providing data on contact person/s, district size, verification, initiatives, dropout prevention team members, and program status); (2) dropout prevention programs (with data on dropout components in general, dropout retrieval activities, educational alternatives, substance abuse, teenage parents, discipline, and youth services); and (3) program components (covering planning documentation, program documentation, interagency cooperation, curriculum, related dropout services, types of students served, and program information).
