NCAA Takes Heat over Commercialization of Athletes
Sander, Libby
Chronicle of Higher Education, v55 n11 pA18 Nov 2008
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is no stranger to criticism. This article reports that during a meeting of the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics, some higher-education officials questioned the NCAA's handling of a CBS fantasy football league, announced over the summer, that would use college athletes' names. Many members of the commission, including some university presidents, said the fantasy league represented a "slippery path" toward exploitative commercialization of college sports and faulted the NCAA for not responding more forcefully when it was created.
