Fair Assessment of Team Assignments in Business Communication and Architecture
Fermelis, Jan; Tucker, Richard; Palmer, Stuart
Business Communication Quarterly, v71 n3 p339-345 2008
Cross-faculty and cross-disciplinary collaborations within higher education are rare, no doubt largely due to the location of academics within discipline- and faculty-based structures. When collaborations do occur, they are frequently problematic, even when the collaborators stem from closely related disciplines. However, collaborations are increasingly seen as necessary in a world where real-life problems inconveniently tend to span disciplines, and within academe where the increasing need for greater specialization must inevitably reduce the range of any individual's skills. In this article, the authors describe their initiative involving a collaborative research project that brings together faculty from architecture, business communication, and teaching and learning. Their initiative involves an evaluation of a prototype online self-and-peer-assessment (SAPA) software.
