Evolving Demands on Teachers
Alexandra Boardman; Jacquelyn Chestnut; Molly H. Fisher
Phi Delta Kappan, v106 n5-6 p44-50 2025
The purpose of this study was to use Maslow's hierarchy of needs to analyze the needs of teachers in a post-pandemic era. Author Molly Fisher began with a survey that was distributed to K-12 teachers across the United States via social media to assess teachers' demands prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and in the present day. Following the survey, her team interviewed a sample of respondents to develop a new post-pandemic hierarchy of needs for K-12 educators. They used their findings to create a new Maslow's hierarchy of needs for educators to assist leaders with future educator support.
