Quest, v77 n3 p404-424 2025
The primary objective of our intervention was to gauge its efficacy and effects targeting racial bias reduction and promoting athlete activism. Due to low participation in the intervention by participants, this article focuses on evaluating the intervention using researcher reflections and experiences of participants who attended the intervention. The pilot intervention consisted of five individual sessions over the course of one academic year with topics centered on intersectionality, racism in sport, microaggressions, inclusive empathic language, and continuation of conversations. Fourteen participants provided their perspectives in individual interviews, all of whom participated in at least one but not every session. Participants valued the conversations, cited increased awareness for the content, and desired to act following their participation. The current intervention provided a platform to begin essential discussions surrounding racism in sport. Still, future work is needed to understand the experiences of a group attending all five sessions.
