Carlos A. Vidales; David L. Vogel; Ronald F. Levant – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
The present study examined the measurement invariance and latent mean differences of three versions of the Self-Stigma of Seeking Help scale among demographic profiles of men. Results revealed strong invariance for the three scales across all demographic groups. Differences in strict invariance and latent mean differences were identified. Public…

Cascalheira, Cory J.; Nelson, Jessie; Kalkbrenner, Michael T. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
The dimensionality and factorial invariance of scores on the Self-Objectification Beliefs and Behaviors Scale (SOBBS) were examined with a sample of 590 transgender and nonbinary participants. Results failed to disconfirm the two-factor model and provided adequate estimates of internal consistency reliability. Strong, strict, and structural…

Vidales, Carlos A.; Fernando, Gaithri A.; Vogel, David L. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
The study evaluated the psychometrics of a newly developed scale that measures the perceived familial stigma of LGBQ-sexuality. Exploratory, confirmatory, bifactor, and omega reliability analyses were conducted on a set of items and suggest these scores reliably measure the intended construct, with specific factors of homonegativity, discretion,…

Lo, Meng-Ting; Perry, Andrew H.; Berenbon, Rebecca – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2022
The PSS10 has been used widely and is helpful to identify at-risk individuals for clinical mental illness such that timely early intervention can be provided. Directions for applying PSS10 with college freshmen and transfer students are suggested noting several non-negligible psychometric concerns including gender bias and violation of ordinality…

Kler, Satveer; Arora, Saumya; Le, Thomas P. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) is a preexisting measure of social support. The purpose of this study was to provide validity evidence for scores from the MSPSS obtained from a sample of 267 LGBTQ+ POC. The CFA results and fit indices supported the original three-factor solution.

Hales, Katherine; Sriken, Julie; Erford, Bradley T.; Sherman, Martin F.; Smith, Heather – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
The Social Justice Scale (SJS) and various subscales were studied on a sample of 414 human services university undergraduates. Internal consistency ([alpha] = 0.93), discriminant validity, and response bias were adequate. The 4-factor model demonstrated an excellent fit. Implications were discussed for use of the SJS in practice and research.

Huynh, Kiet D.; Sheridan, Daniel J.; Lee, Debbiesiu L. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2020
The original and revised versions of the Internalized Homophobia Scale (IHP) were examined for gender invariance. The revised version was found to have a better fit, and passed the test of configural, metric, and scalar invariance. The revised version is recommended as a brief measure of internalized heterosexism.

Witmer, Sara E.; Roschmann, Sarina – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2020
It is critical to examine whether test accommodations function as intended in removing construct-irrelevant variance. The measurement comparability of a math test for students with emotional impairments and those without disabilities was examined. Results indicated the presence of limited differential item functioning (DIF) regardless of…

Dimitrov, Dimiter M. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2017
This article offers an approach to examining differential item functioning (DIF) under its item response theory (IRT) treatment in the framework of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The approach is based on integrating IRT- and CFA-based testing of DIF and using bias-corrected bootstrap confidence intervals with a syntax code in Mplus.

Sessoms, John; Finney, Sara J.; Kopp, Jason P. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2016
Academic entitlement (AE) characterizes students who believe they deserve positive academic outcomes independent of performance. Using the Academic Entitlement Questionnaire, we evaluated the longitudinal stability of the measurement and magnitude of AE. Results indicated partial measurement invariance, slight average increase in AE, and…

Cramer, Robert J.; Burks, Alixandra C.; Golom, Frank D.; Stroud, Caroline H.; Graham, James L. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2017
We tested the psychometric properties of the Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Identity Scale. Findings included (1) a three-factor structure (i.e., Negative Identity, Identity Uncertainty, Identity Superiority); (2) less positive identities among HIV-positive persons, African Americans, males, and bisexuals; and (3) convergent patterns with subjective…

Bashkov, Bozhidar M.; Finney, Sara J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2013
Traditional methods of assessing construct stability are reviewed and longitudinal mean and covariance structures (LMACS) analysis, a modern approach, is didactically illustrated using psychological entitlement data. Measurement invariance and latent variable stability results are interpreted, emphasizing substantive implications for educators and…

Greer, Tawanda M. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2010
This study examined the structural validity of the Schedule of Racist Events (SRE), a brief inventory that assesses the frequency and stressfulness of racism in the lives of African Americans. The original three-factor structure of the SRE was examined, along with an alternative structure that was designed to test whether the SRE captured types of…

Canel-Cinarbas, Deniz; Cui, Ying; Lauridsen, Erica – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2011
The purpose of this study was to test the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) for factorial invariance across Turkish and U.S. college student samples. The results indicated that (a) a two-factor model has an adequate fit for both samples, thus providing evidence of configural invariance, and (b) there is a metric invariance but "no"…

Wu, Pei-Chen; Huang, Tsai-Wei – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2010
This study was to apply the mixed Rasch model to investigate person heterogeneity of Beck Depression Inventory-II-Chinese version (BDI-II-C) and its effects on dimensionality and construct validity. Person heterogeneity was reflected by two latent classes that differ qualitatively. Additionally, person heterogeneity adversely affected the…
