Ryan Wesslen – ProQuest LLC, 2021
In this thesis, we hypothesize that data visualization users are subject to systematic errors, or cognitive biases, in decision-making under uncertainty. Based on research from psychology, behavioral economics, and cognitive science, we design five experiments to measure the role of anchoring bias, confirmation bias, belief bias, and myopic loss…

Tella, Adeyinka – Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship, 2022
This study examined a relational analysis of the usability features of university library websites in Nigeria. Through a survey design, a sample of 187 undergraduate students enrolled in a course on Web Design and Management participated in the study. The findings revealed that the usability of a university library website is premised on factors…

Xia, Jinyue – ProQuest LLC, 2017
Current online video interaction is typically designed with a focus on straightforward distribution and passive consumption of individual videos. This "click play, sit back and watch" context is typical of videos for entertainment. However, there are many task scenarios that require active engagement and analysis of video content as a…

Ju, Boryung; Albertson, Dan – Information Research: An International Electronic Journal, 2018
Introduction: This study examines the effects of certain key factors on users' intention to ultimately adopt and use video digital libraries for facilitating their information needs. The individual factors identified for this study, based on their given potential to influence use and acceptance of video digital libraries, were categorised for data…

Davids, Mogamat Razeen; Chikte, Usuf M. E.; Halperin, Mitchell L. – Advances in Physiology Education, 2013
Optimizing the usability of e-learning materials is necessary to maximize their potential educational impact, but this is often neglected when time and other resources are limited, leading to the release of materials that cannot deliver the desired learning outcomes. As clinician-teachers in a resource-constrained environment, we investigated…

Lee, Kiljae – ProQuest LLC, 2013
While interactivity is regarded as a distinguishing characteristic of computer technology, the explanation on its impact remains in its infancy. The present research investigates what it means to provide a more (or less) interactive computer interface design by attempting to uncover its cognitive influences on the user's expectation of outcome and…

Phillips, Donald – Computers in Libraries, 2012
A "user interface" is the part of an interactive system that bridges the user and the underlying functionality of the system. But people sometimes forget that the best interfaces will provide a platform to optimize the users' interactions so that they support and extend the users' activities in effective, useful, and usable ways. To look at it…

Zaharias, Panagiotis; Koutsabasis, Panayiotis – Campus-Wide Information Systems, 2012
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to discuss heuristic evaluation as a method for evaluating e-learning courses and applications and more specifically to investigate the applicability and empirical use of two customized e-learning heuristic protocols. Design/methodology/approach: Two representative e-learning heuristic protocols were chosen…

Wilcox-Patterson, Lauren – ProQuest LLC, 2013
The recent trend toward patients participating in their own healthcare has opened up numerous opportunities for computing research. This dissertation focuses on how technology can foster this participation, through user interfaces to effectively communicate personal health status and care progress to hospital patients. I first characterize the…

Aquino, Cesar A. – ProQuest LLC, 2014
This study represents a research validating the efficacy of Davis' Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by pairing it with the Organizational Change Readiness Theory (OCRT) to develop another extension to the TAM, using the medical Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)--Electronic Health Records (EHR) interface as the medium. The TAM posits that it is…

Farri, Oladimeji Feyisetan – ProQuest LLC, 2012
Large quantities of redundant clinical data are usually transferred from one clinical document to another, making the review of such documents cognitively burdensome and potentially error-prone. Inadequate designs of electronic health record (EHR) clinical document user interfaces probably contribute to the difficulties clinicians experience while…

Morris, Mitchell J. – ProQuest LLC, 2012
Quickly accessing the contents of a video is challenging for users, particularly for unstructured video, which contains no intentional shot boundaries, no chapters, and no apparent edited format. We approach this problem in the domain of lecture videos though the use of machine learning, to gather semantic information about the videos; and through…

Caropreso, Maria Fernanda; Inkpen, Diana; Keshtkar, Fazel; Khan, Shahzad – Journal of Interactive Learning Research, 2012
Natural Language Generation (NLG) systems can make data accessible in an easily digestible textual form; but using such systems requires sophisticated linguistic and sometimes even programming knowledge. We have designed and implemented an environment for creating and modifying NLG templates that requires no programming knowledge, and can operate…

Zimmerman, Don; Paschal, Dawn Bastian – Journal of Academic Librarianship, 2009
In an exploratory study, participants (n = 18) completed 11 usability tasks to assess ease of use of two Web sites, and then a Web site perception questionnaire for each. Participants rated both Web sites positively, but 25% and 36% could not complete all tasks; doing so required more than a minute to complete. (Contains 2 figures and 7 tables.)
