Kimong, Patricia J.; Erford, Bradley T.; DeCino, Daniel A. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
We reviewed 19 English version scholarly works and 11 other language translation articles from 2004-2018 for the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale -- Revised (CESD-R). Alpha was 0.92 (0.90, 0.94; N = 13,150); convergent, factorial, and diagnostic validity were robust. Implications for counseling practice and research were discussed.

Julie Sriken; Bradley T. Erford; Martin F. Sherman; Kristen Watson; Heather L. Smith – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
Psychometric characteristics of CESD-R scores were explored on a sample of 966 undergraduate students. Internal consistency ([alpha] = 0.92), external convergent and discriminant validity, and response bias were adequate to excellent. Strong measurement invariance was evident for gender and race comparisons, and the unidimensional model fit the…

AL-Dossary, Saeed A.; Almohayya, Bander M. – Psychology in the Schools, 2024
The present study aims to validate the Flourishing Scale (FS) in a convenience sample of 233 special education teachers. The FS's psychometric properties were investigated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). EFA had a one-factor solution that explained 49.9% of the variance, a Cronbach's alpha internal…

Hales, Katherine; Sriken, Julie; Erford, Bradley T.; Sherman, Martin F.; Smith, Heather – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
The Social Justice Scale (SJS) and various subscales were studied on a sample of 414 human services university undergraduates. Internal consistency ([alpha] = 0.93), discriminant validity, and response bias were adequate. The 4-factor model demonstrated an excellent fit. Implications were discussed for use of the SJS in practice and research.

Sriken, Julie; Johnsen, Sarah T.; Smith, Heather; Sherman, Martin F.; Erford, Bradley T. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2022
Responses to the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale displayed high score reliability ([alpha] = 0.91) and adequate convergent and divergent validity for college undergraduates. The data provided an adequate to excellent fit to the unidimensional model. Measurement invariance was demonstrated for gender and race.

Ashaie, Sameer A.; Cherney, Leora R. – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2021
Purpose: Depression assessment is challenging in persons with aphasia given their language impairment. Studies have used both self-report scales and by-proxy measures of depression in persons with aphasia. However, the validity of these measures has been called into question. The aim of this study was to conduct a preliminary investigation into…
