Does Your Parent Handbook Need a Makeover?
Rafanello, Donna
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n167 p66-67 Jan-Feb 2006
In a survey, directors and teachers rated parent relations ("difficult parents"), parent communication, and effective communication among their greatest frustrations and most important training topics. Readers named discipline, nutrition, toilet training, and kindergarten readiness among the most common concerns expressed by parents regarding raising their children; all topics addressed in a comprehensive parent handbook. In this article, the author discusses the importance of parent handbooks on issues related to young children's care and education. Several suggestions on how to create an effective parent handbook are presented.
