MTSS[superscript +Gifted] Module: Infusing the Needs of Gifted Learners within the MTSS Model in Graduate Education Programs
Gifted Child Today, v48 n3 p198-220 2025
The Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process provides for mitigating gaps in our educator preparation programs with respect to providing for the wide array of student learning needs in K-12 classrooms. However, current educator preparation programs do not adequately address the needs of advanced and gifted learners in either undergraduate or graduate educator preparation degree programs. Without information about the needs of advanced learners, tier I instruction in general education classrooms cannot be guaranteed. Integrating the proposed MTSS[superscript +Gifted] Module within graduate degree programs, proposes a solution for mitigating both of these gaps. This module will inform graduate students about a) the process of supporting the learning needs of a range of students in the current classrooms (MTSS), and b) specifically targeting the needs of advanced and gifted learners in that process ([superscript +]Gifted).
