Ecosystem Journalism
Robertson, Amy; Mahlin, Kathryn
Science and Children, v43 n3 p42-45 Nov-Dec 2005
If the organisms in a prairie ecosystem created a newspaper, what would it look like? What important news topics of the ecosystem would the organisms want to discuss? Imaginative and enthusiastic third-grade students were busy pondering these questions as they tried their hands at "ecosystem journalism." The class had recently completed a study of prairies; now they were deeply involved in sharing what they learned in a student-written newspaper about this ecosystem. This newspaper project presents a way to thoroughly engage students and encourage then to write creatively about science concepts.
