"Leader in Me": Effects on Math Achievement
Ketina Armstrong
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Missouri Baptist University
The mixed methods study examined the impact of "Leader in Me" effects on math achievement in Grades 4 and 5. The problem this study addressed is underachieving mathematical achievement in a suburban school district when compared to the state assessment. "'Leader in Me' helps students learn how to become self-reliant, take initiative, plan ahead, set and track goals, do their homework, prioritize their time, manage their emotions, be considerate of others, express their viewpoint persuasively, resolve conflict, find creative solutions, value differences, and live a balanced life" (FranklinCovey Corporation, 2020a, para. 2). "Leader in Me" provides teachers with real practices and tools to teach students leadership skills, create a culture of student empowerment, and aligns academic systems that drive results (FranklinCovey Corporation, 2020a). The study explored "Leader in Me" effects on mathematical achievement on students in Grade 4 and 5 as determined by a teacher survey, student attendance, student discipline, and a math assessment. Research data was collected from August 2018 through March 2020. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
