Teaching Mathematics through Comic Storytelling -- A Bridge to Students' Worlds
Oliwe, Ruth; Chao, Theodore
Australian Primary Mathematics Classroom, v27 n1 p22-27 2022
In this article, the authors investigated the effect of comic storytelling (centred upon students' experiences in their everyday life) in enhancing students' understanding, motivation and engagement in primary mathematics. These lessons connected "out-of-school" and "in-school" mathematics, involved students telling and writing their own mathematics stories; and thereby helped students change their perception of mathematics as abstract, their attitude towards mathematics and how to notice real-world mathematics all around them.
