Della Teresa Brisbon
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Columbia International University
The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to determine the relationship between teachers' perception of lead teacher/principal's leadership style and student academic achievement in the areas of GED attainment, WorkKeys certification attainment, and vocational certification attainment in the Palmetto Unified School District operating within the prisons of the South Carolina Department of Corrections. The participants provided primary data on the lead teacher/principal's leadership style using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire 5X Rater Form. The secondary data, GED attainment, WorkKeys certification attainment, and vocational certification attainment, were received from district personnel for each educational program. The work revealed a slight positive relationship between teachers' perception of lead teacher/principal's leadership style and GED attainment at the 0.10 confidence level (F(4, 40) = 2.475, p = 0.060 < 0.10) and WorkKeys certification attainment at the 0.10 confidence level (F(4, 40) = 2.226, p = 0.083 < 0.10). At the same time, outcomes revealed a relationship at the 0.05 confidence level for GED attainment "(t (400 = 2.338, p = 0.024 < 0.05)" and WorkKeys certification attainment "(t (400 = 2.664, p = 0.012 < 0.05)." Finally, there was not a relationship between teachers' perception of lead teacher/principal's leadership style and vocational certification attainment.
