Embodied Explorations of Slope

Our bodies help us learn, and our bodies may know something before we can articulate it. Embodied explorations are body-based learning experiences where learners have opportunities to make sense of and convey ideas with their bodies. These embodied explorations were taught at a suburban public high school, in the southern United States, that serves approximately 1,700 ninth-to-twelfth-grade students. The lesson was implemented in an Algebra II class with 15 students that meets for a 100-minute block of time. The embodied explorations were designed to help students develop their abilities to explain the meaning of slope, what the formula represents, and real-world applications of slope.
