Kim, Nayoung; Oh, JungSu – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
We investigated the effect of careless or insufficient effort (C/IE) responses in a study using Amazon's Mechanical Turk. A factor mixture model was used to identify latent classes based on the pattern of responses with biases and examine the effect of C/IE responses on the fit of the theoretical model.

Jessica L. Monahan; Brian Freedman; Vini Singh; Luke Kalb; Cassidy Edmondson – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
Internal validity and measurement invariance of the Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms-62 item (CCAPS-62) was examined via confirmatory factor analytic models among autistic (n = 1,268) and non-autistic (n = 3,776) college students. Findings reviewed the CCAPS-62 had a strong model fit and was invariant across groups.

Khalid Stetkevych; Martin F. Sherman; Julie Sriken; Bradley T. Erford; Heather L. Smith; Adriana Kipper-Smith; Frances Niarhos – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
Objective: Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms (CCAPS-34) scores were studied for longitudinal bias-free construct evidence. Method: A sample of 4,696 university students referred to a university counseling center were assessed twice for evidence of longitudinal measurement invariance. Results: Adequate or marginal longitudinal…

Sherman, Martin F.; Sriken, Julie; Erford, Bradley T.; Smith, Heather L.; MacInerney, Erin; Niarhos, Frances; Kipper-Smith, Adriana – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2021
Analysis of CCAPS-34 scores on a large (n = 4,852) university counseling center student sample supported internal consistency ([alpha] = 0.803-0.896), one-month test-retest reliability (r[subscript tt] = 0.706-0.829), convergent and divergent validity, and good model fit. Measurement invariance of scores for all categories of race and student…

Blau, Gary; DiMino, John – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2019
A new short scale measuring prepared for counseling (PfC) was developed based on 112 nonurgent undergraduates seeking counseling. Having prior counseling, self (vs. other) referral, counselor meeting anxiety, and life satisfaction were significant correlates of PfC. Clients with higher (lower) PfC stopped counseling with (without) discussion.

Bloom, Zachary D.; Lambie, Glenn W. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2020
Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were carried out on the Adolescent Measure of Empathy and Sympathy (AMES) with two subsamples of emerging adults (each n = 799). The analyses resulted in a three-factor solution, accounting for 66.71% of the variance.

Choi, Seong-In; Gerstein, Lawrence H. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2020
We developed the Beliefs and Evaluations About Counseling Services (BEACS) scale by incorporating a mathematical formula adopted from the Theory of Reasoned Action. We conducted three studies using distinctive samples for item generation, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and obtained the validity evidence for scores from the scale.

Ghosh, Arpita; Niileksela, Christopher R.; Parham, Aishah; Janis, Rebecca A. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2021
This study assessed factorial invariance of scores from the Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms - 34 (CCAPS-34) across military (n = 2,836) and nonmilitary (n = 2,836) students accessing counseling services between 2014 and 2016. Based on factorial invariance tests, findings suggest the CCAPS-34 measures the same constructs…

Youn, Soo Jeong; Castonguay, Louis G.; McAleavey, Andrew A.; Nordberg, Samuel S.; Hayes, Jeffrey A.; Locke, Benjamin D. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2020
The current study investigated the sensitivity to change of the Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms-34 (CCAPS-34), a multidimensional measure designed to assess the mental health problems common in college students across seven domains. The results suggest that the CCAPS-34 is able to capture change taking place during treatment.

Lee, Ahram; Park, Eun Hye; Byeon, Eunji; Lee, Sang Min – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2016
This study describes the development and psychometric properties of the Counseling Supervisor's Behavior Questionnaire, designed to assess the specific behaviors of supervisors, which can be observed by supervisees during supervision sessions. Factor structure, construct and concurrent validity, and internal consistency reliability of the…

A short version of the Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms-62 (CCAPS-62) was created via three studies. The final short version (CCAPS-34), which contains 34 items and 7 subscales, demonstrated good discrimination power, support for the proposed factor structure, strong initial convergent validity, and adequate test-retest…

Counselor Competence, Performance Assessment, and Program Evaluation: Using Psychometric Instruments
Tate, Kevin A.; Bloom, Margaret L.; Tassara, Marcel H.; Caperton, William – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2014
Psychometric instruments have been underutilized by counselor educators in performance assessment and program evaluation efforts. As such, we conducted a review of the literature that revealed 41 instruments fit for such efforts. We described and critiqued these instruments along four dimensions--"Target Domain," "Format,"…

Sessoms, John; Finney, Sara J.; Kopp, Jason P. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2016
Academic entitlement (AE) characterizes students who believe they deserve positive academic outcomes independent of performance. Using the Academic Entitlement Questionnaire, we evaluated the longitudinal stability of the measurement and magnitude of AE. Results indicated partial measurement invariance, slight average increase in AE, and…

Lynch, Martin F. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2012
This conceptual and practical overview of multilevel modeling (MLM) for researchers in counseling and development provides guidelines on setting up SPSS to perform MLM and an example of how to present the findings. It also provides a discussion on how counseling and developmental researchers can use MLM to address their own research questions.…

Balkin, Richard S.; Harris, Nephaterria A.; Freeman, Stephen J.; Huntington, Scott – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2014
The Forgiveness Reconciliation Inventory is a theoretically derived instrument. Participants included individuals from clinical and nonclinical populations. Confirmatory factor analysis along with correlational designs and between-group comparisons indicate strong psychometric properties of the Forgiveness Reconciliation Inventory. The authors…
