Ten Qualities of a Strong Community College Leader
Wheelan, Belle
Community College Journal, v82 n5 p26-29 Apr-May 2012
There are thousands of articles, books, essays, dissertations, and more devoted to leadership in higher education. All of them highlight the importance of a person "out front" who is charged with moving the organization forward and people who follow to ensure that movement takes place. The author's favorite definition of leadership is not found in any publication. It comes from a plaque given to her by a human resources director during her first college presidency. It says, "Being in charge isn't all glory." As the 2012 American Association of Community Colleges Leadership Award winner, the author would like to share 10 qualities that define what it means to be an effective community college leader.
