Environmental problems created by the automobile and intensified rapidly over the past three decades are studied in this teacher's guide. The resource unit is intended to provide the teacher with basic information that will aid classroom review of these problems. With efficient and effective transportation as a goal, topics focus on transportation efficiency, the cost of transportation, the automobile, the automobile and the environment, air pollution, land use, water pollution, improving the internal combustion engine, alternatives to the conventional internal combustion engine, and mass transit.
