New Adventure: Success Strategies for Elementary Reading and Language.
Tallahassee City Schools, FL.
The federally funded "New Adventure" program for children in the primary grades stresses individually determined language arts instruction coupled with positive behavioral principles. The first section of this document describes the program, presents the results of the first three years of its operation in a Tallahassee (Florida) elementary school, and explains the overall evaluation design. Objectives, teaching activities, evaluation methods, and findings are presented for five areas: oral language development, psycholinguistic development, reading development, selected advanced language arts skills development, and affective development. The second section discusses staff development activities, outlines two strategies for staff training, and notes probable costs involved in obtaining staff training and support services and in purchasing student materials for the program. A bibliography of related materials is included. (GW)
