This report presents annual data on the amount of financial assistance grants, loans, and work-study available to postsecondary students. Text and 14 tables and figures explain and display a variety of data for the period 1987-88 through 1997-98, covering virtually all federal aid and most of the state and institutional assistance programs available to students. Trend data presented includes: aid awarded to postsecondary students in current dollars; aid awarded in constant dollars; average tuition and fee charges; cost of attendance; selected income measures in current and constant dollars; number of recipients and aid per recipient for Pell Grant, state Student Incentive Grants, and campus-based programs in current and constant dollars; aggregate number of loans and average loan amount for the Federal Family Education Loan Program and the Ford Direct Student Loan Program; percentage distribution of aid from the Federal Pell, campus-based, Stafford Loan, and Parent Loans to Undergraduate Student programs by type of institution; grant, loan, and work-study funding in current and constant dollars as a percentage of total aid; and federal Pell Grant awards in current and constant dollars.
