The purpose of this Colorado state curriculum guide is to involve elementary school students in meaningful experiences about the U.S. Constitution and to promote democracy, democratic values, and citizenship education in elementary schools. This document provides an interdisciplinary approach to teaching about the Constitution through lessons in history, government, geography, economics, mock trials, language arts, literature, foreign language, humanities, mathematics, science, art, music, and physical education. Specific lesson plans, learning activities, and student handouts are included. Lesson plans contain: (1) intended grade levels; (2) objectives; and (3) required materials.
