Adaptation of the Career Portfolio at the University of California, San Diego: A Case Study
Ceperley, Andrew; Schmidt, Craig
New Directions for Student Services, n119 p65-72 Fall 2007
In fall 2004, the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) officially launched its own customized version of the online Career Portfolio, originally developed by Florida State University (Lumsden and others, 2001). This launch represented the culmination of nearly sixteen months of planning and development by a multidisciplinary team comprising Career Services Center practitioners, campus technical staff, and Web writers. To some extent, the official approval and subsequent implementation process can be viewed as a confluence of campus factors and events jointly contributing to the perception that this was the right time and UCSD the right place for this important online tool. Described in this article are the planning, development, testing, and launching phases of UCSD's online career portfolio, as well as a summary of its impact and discussion of its future.
