Chinese Children's Self-Perceptions of Ability in Physical Education.
Xiang, Ping
Journal of Research in Childhood Education, v17 n1 p97-105 Fall-Win 2002
Compared Chinese fourth-, eighth-, and eleventh-graders' self-perceptions of ability in physical education. Found no grade-related decline in perceived ability. All students used effort, ability, and comparison to judge their ability. Students at all grades perceived task mastery as the major ability indicator and tended to assess ability in social comparative terms. Older children were more likely than younger to see natural ability or effort as evidence of ability. (Author/KB)
