The East Central Curriculum Management Center (ECCMC) was evaluated by the Illinois State Advisory Council on Adult, Vocational and Technical Education. The council reviewed the internal operations of the center, including (1) an assessment of how various units within the Illinois Office of Education (IOE) related to the Center; (2) a survey of local education agencies within Illinois to ascertain awareness and use of the Center's services and products; (3) a survey of the directors of the other eleven states served by the center; (4) a survey of the Superintendents of Educational Service Regions in Illinois, and (5) a review of the internal operations through an all-day visitation of the center and personnel and the IOE personnel. Conclusions were that the center is an integral and important component in the delivery of vocational education programs and services in Illinois. By keeping the local education agencies (LEAs) informed of available curriculums and other materials available the center is actively strengthening vocational education in Illinois, and, to a lesser extent, in the other eleven states served. Nevertheless, the center could improve its services and operations. Local educational agencies could assist themselves and the center by informing greater numbers of their staff about the center and the services provided. Specific recommendations were made with regard to federal and state funding of the center and suggestions for improving utilization of its services. (JT)
