Journal of Educational and Psychological Consultation, v29 n3 p260-282 2019
College and career readiness (CCR) cannot be overstated for today's high school students. The rigor of postsecondary education and the demands of the workforce have dramatically shifted to advanced levels of academic and occupational skills for the 21st century. The goal of having all students college ready or career ready upon high school graduation challenges secondary schools. This study represents an initial investigation concerning CCR knowledge and effectiveness with 34 school districts in Indiana. The study had 458 administrators and guidance counselors, general education teachers and special educators complete the survey (25% return rate). While respondents agreed on most survey items, there were differences regarding (a) teacher belief statements, (b) knowledge of CCR programs, and (c) the effectiveness of programs being implemented. Recommendations for CCR programming are made with specific suggestions provided for guidance counselors.
