Improving Schools through Performance-Based Accountability and Financial Rewards.
King, Richard A.; Mathers, Judith K.
Journal of Education Finance, v23 n2 p147-76 Fall 1997
Policymakers are exploring whether schools should be allocated state funds as rewards for improving student achievement and other performance indicators. Team-based rewards specified in 14 states' statutes represent a limited form of performance-based school finance. This article examines financial rewards in four states and makes policy recommendations for improving performance-based accountability systems that include statewide standards, assessments, rewards, and sanctions.
