Practice What You Preach: A Project to Develop a Contingency-Managed "Methods" Course, and to Measure the Effects of This Course by In-Field Evaluation. Final Report.
Tawney, James W.
A competency based special education teacher training and certification program for regular teachers seeking special education certificates was developed in a Kentucky program. Teachers were certified contingent upon the following factors: (1) criterion performance on teacher-child interaction scales, (2) student criterion performance on on-task behavior during work periods and (3) students' academic performances represented by 30-day work samples from a randomly drawn sample. Sixteen participants in the summer certification program were presented with a contingency managed methods course and the opportunity to observe a contingency managed demonstration class. Ss were observed teaching to determine the extent to which they utilized newly taught skills. Appendixes include module outlines (with such modules as writing behavioral objectives and task analysis), the recording form and coding system for recording child social behavior, the teacher behavior recording form and code, and the in-field evaluation form. Also included is an article by J. Tawney entitled "Behavior Modification is Not. . ." (DB)
