Improving the Assessment of Capstone Projects in the Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering
ACM Transactions on Computing Education, v25 n2 Article 14 2025
The Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering at University Jaume I has a capstone project in which the student develops, during a 300-hour internship in an enterprise, a real-world project. We collected data for five academic years to analyze the assessment process to propose a new hybrid model, which combines analytic and holistic assessment and takes into account all the factors that influence the evaluation. As a result, a comprehensive assessment model for capstone projects is proposed, incorporating five key dimensions derived from an in-depth analysis of the collected data: the students' competency performance, the quality of the project proposal, the quality of advising, the panel involved in the assessment process, and the assessment criteria used for project evaluation.
