"Texas Standard": Spreading the Word to the Teachers' State Association of Texas
Morowski, Deborah L.
American Educational History Journal, v34 n1 p205-219 2007
Despite the importance of educational journals to teachers and other educational professionals, little attention has been given to educational communication or journalism, particularly those published by a minority teachers' state or local association. This study examines the "Texas Standard," which, beginning in 1926, provided information to a variety of African-American educational professionals and other interested parties throughout Texas for over forty years. The work was published in various formats and contained editorials, convention proceedings, personnel news, philosophical discussions, and articles on teaching methodologies. This study reviews the journal's editors, history and content, as well as the significance of the publication.
