Mathematics Teaching Incorporating Micromath, n200 p17-18 Jan 2007
Last year, the author worked with a group of Key Stage 3 (KS3) consultants at a regional roadshow devoted to the topic of information and communications technology (ICT), "Embedding ICT in mathematics teaching." The roadshow was organized by the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM) and the Mathematical Association (MA), and the focus for the day was working on some of the resources provided on the CD that accompanies the book "Integrating ICT into the mathematics classroom." This article describes the workshop, which raises the issue of unpredictability in the classroom and addresses both the characteristics of the software used and the ways in which teachers use it to pose questions as crucial factors in developing mathematical thinking in students. (Contains 3 notes.)
