How Useful Are Performance Indicators in the Polytechnic Sector?
McElwee, Gerard
Educational Management and Administration, v20 n3 p189-92 Jul 1992
British higher education, particularly the polytechnic sector, is becoming more bureaucratic since Corporatisation in 1989. Performance indicators are useful when they create a better pedagogical process that benefits students. Performance indicators are not acceptable when they are used to satisfy the needs of capital and promote cost effectiveness at the expense of individuals' qualitative needs. (11 references) (MLH)
