The 15 articles in this issue of "Reading in Virginia" focus on various aspects of reading instruction. Topics of the articles are an analysis of American Indian dialect and its implications for the reading curriculum, community involvement, 13 basic words, kinesics and reading, a psycholinguistic perspective of reading problems, how parents can help their children read, Virginia's commitment to the gifted, the problem of pressure on children, magic and motivation in better reading, the effects of teachers' response strategies on children's oral reading performance, modality preferences and reading achievement, teaching reading in the content areas, two Virginia State Reading Association teachers of the year, and a workshop for parents to learn how to help their children learn.
