Mathematics Enrichment Activities. Grades 3 Through 12.
Virginia State Dept. of Education, Richmond. Div. of Sciences and Elementary Administration.
One way to stimulate interest in mathematics among students is to provide them with enrichment activities which often are somewhat different than regular classroom activities. Based on that premise, this publication presents a compendium of activities designed to enrich mathematics at various grade levels. The activities fall into seven categories. Three groups are simply categorized by grade level; namely primary, intermediate, and middle school. The algebra I activities are designed to be treated at whichever grade that subject is taught, while the activities designated for higher algebra are intended for students studying algebra beyond the first year. The geometry level is designed for students enrolled in a traditional high school geometry course, and the advanced mathematics category contains topics usually compatible with students taking a senior level mathematics course. Each activity in the document includes an introduction, objectives, a list of materials needed, and a description of the procedure. Some activities also contain reproducible worksheets suitable for use by the students. Solutions to problems are also provided for the teacher. (TW)
