There are two major parts to this book. The first is a study of bibliographic control of microforms, and the second is an extensive annotated bibliography of microforms. The study included a survey of 190 libraries and showed that local bibliographic control of microforms is often so inadequate that usefulness of the microform collection is diminished. Though some national and international tools exist, none has seemed satisfactory. A proposal is made for a national machine readable index which is divisible into a variety of indexes as needed by libraries. The appendixes include a detailed description of such a system, as well as a list of microform statistics and publishers. Also a part of the appendixes, the annotated bibliography of microforms includes catalogs and lists, collections and series, manuscript and archival collections, and reference books. There is an index to the complete bibliography, and a list of publications about microforms. (LS)
