This book is based on a series of 12 lectures delivered at The Rockefeller University where scholars addressed themselves to problems of science today. Science, as a general term used in this book, encompasses research, development, and education in both the academic and industrial sense and by both governmental and private agencies. Concern is with the interactions of science and society as well as with the opportunities and demands of science itself. These working seminars examined the evolution and execution of public policy in science and related education. Section headings of purpose and utility of science, development and goals, university, federal support of science, and support of science indicate the scope of the book. (Author/LS)
