Career Satisfaction and Success: A Guide to Job Freedom.
Haldane, Bernard
The book teaches a method for managing a personal career in much the way a successful business is managed. The method is named "System to Identify Motivated Skills" (SIMS); the first chapters lead the reader through the process in a series of workbook-like exercises designed to identify his strengths, rather than his weaknesses. The book's fourth chapter teaches ways to enlarge the reader's self-knowledge and to determine an attainable goal for career development. Following chapters offer advice on using the newly-gained self-knowledge in identifying areas where changing business conditions offer opportunities for personal growth, and in relating more effectively to co-workers, particularly employers. Final chapters direct the reader in meshing his personal career goals with those the employer sets for on-the-job performance. Use of the technique is illustrated by anecdotal case histories. (AJ)
