Introducing More Books: A Guide for the Middle Grades.
Spirt, Diana L.
To assist teachers, librarians, and others who provide reading guidance for children aged nine to fourteen, this volume provides a listing of 72 titles arranged according to nine appropriate developmental goals: getting along in the family, making friends, developing values, understanding physical and emotional problems, forming a view of the world, respecting living creatures, understanding social problems, identifying adult roles, and appreciating books. Each of the 72 main titles is divided into sections that include a plot summary, thematic analysis, discussion materials, and related books. The book also contains an index of biographical information on the authors and illustrators, a title/author/illustrator index of all the titles, and a subject index that lists the main titles under conventional topics, such as animal stories.
