Intended for use by preservice and in-service teachers, this book contains directions for development of Applesoft BASIC programs that provide instruction related to the learning of school subjects. Chapter 1 tells how to select a topic suitable for educational software and gives directions for developing program content based on specified learning objectives. Applesoft BASIC is reviewed in Chapter 2, and chapter 3 shows how to develop a program as a series of frames with interesting screen displays for selected frames. Chapter 4 explains how to make an educational program interactive through the use of prompts and input statements while chapter 5 describes procedures for including evaluation of student achievement. Different routines to add variety and interest to a program are presented in chapter 6, and chapter 7 contains short routines to display and format numbers. Chapter 8 describes shortcuts for debugging a program, and chapter 9 explains how to write documentation for the program. The appendices include sample programs, a list of criteria for the design and selection of educational software, and a table of ASCII character codes. (MES)
