School-University Partnerships in Action: Concepts, Cases,
Sirotnik, Kenneth A., Ed.; Goodlad, John I., Ed.
A general paradigm for ideal collaboration between schools and universities is proposed. It is based on a mutually collaborative arrangement between equal partners working together to meet self-interests while solving common problems. It is suggested that reasonable approximations to this ideal have great potential to effect significant educational improvements not ordinarily possible outside of such a collaborative relationship. Ten papers are presented in three sections. Part I, Concepts, contains: "School-University Partnerships for Educational Renewal: Rationale and Concepts" (John I. Goodlad), and "School-University Relationships: An Interpretive Review" (Richard W. Clark). In Part II, Cases, includes: "The Metropolitan School Study Council: A Living History" (Ann Lieberman); "A Partnership for Increasing Student Learning: The Massachusetts Coalition for School Improvement" (Robert L. Sinclair and Anne E. Harrison); "The Southern California Partnership: A Retrospective Analysis" (Paul E. Hechman); "The Brigham Young University-Public School Partnership" (David D. Williams); and "Accents on Leadership: The Puget Sound Educational Consortium" (Pamela J. Keating and Richard W. Clark). Part III, Concerns, concludes with "The Meaning and Conduct of Inquiry in School-University Partnerships" (Kenneth A. Sirotnik); "Shared Problems and Shared Vision: Organic Collaboration" (Phillip C. Schlechty and Betty Lou Whitford); and "The Future of School-University Partnerships" (John I. Goodlad and Kenneth A. Sirotnik). (SM)
