Studies in Philippine Linguistics, Volume 6, Number 2, 1986.
Otanes, Fe T., Ed.; Hale, Austin, Ed.
Three linguistic studies of Philippine languages are presented. In "Sociolinguistic Survey of Bantoanon" by M. Ruth Gordon and Heather J. Kilgour, sociolinguistic methods were used to study the Bantoanon area of northwest Ramblon province to learn how the Bantoanon people feel about their language and where its linguistic center is. "Survey Methods and Their Insights into the Acceptability of Literature among Related Varieties" by Michael P. Downey addresses the problem presented when speakers of one dialect reject literature prepared in a closely related dialect. The setting is the Mayoyao municipality of Ifugao Province in northern Luzon. "A Reconstruction of Proto-Southern Mindanaon" by T. Dale Savage reconstructs the phonology of Proto-Southern Mindanaon, the hypothetical common parent language of Koronadal Blaan, Sarangani Blaan, and Tboli, and tests the assumption that the three daughter languages are related.
