This paper describes the proceedings of a conference on children and television, "Worldwide Fine Tuning for Children," held on 11 February 1977 by the University of Miami Department of Communications. The purpose of the conference was to survey the world of television as experienced by children and to explore how communications experts, educators, parents, and concerned citizens can bring about better programming. The following are provided: a program flier, brief biographical data concerning conference panelists, and a transcript of a panel discussion of the impact of the International Telephone and Telegraph's international television series for and about children ("The Big Blue Marble") and other factors influencing children's television. Handouts from a workshop on pioneering positive television include "Nine Steps toward Better Television for Children,""TV in Your Home: Four Ways to Protect and Benefit Your Child," and "Guidelines for Organizing Your Community for Better Television." An outline for the workshop, discussing how teachers and parents can use quality commercial television, completes the paper. (KS)
