These proceedings of a national Australian conference deal with many aspects of educating gifted and talented students and contain an opening address by I. Mathieson concerning the philosophy of the Queensland (Australia) State Education Department and a statement by James Gallagher, President of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. The texts of 34 presented papers are included, grouped in the following categories (sample topics in parentheses): (1) "National and State Perspectives" (emphasizing Western Australia); (2) "Identification and Selection Procedures" (including a paper on mathematics giftedness); (3) "Gifted Children in the Regular School Classroom" (examining cooperative learning, language arts, a longitudinal study, and use of literature); (4) "Learning and Teaching about the Gifted: In-Service and Pre-Service Programmes" (focusing on the intellect approach and the Enrichment Triad Model); (5) "Community-Supported Programmes" (including a presentation on study skills); (6) "Disadvantaged and Underachieving Gifted Students" (highlighting gifted geographically isolated students); (7) "Parental and Counselling Perspectives"; (8) "Research and Clinical" (studying the very gifted and the mathematically gifted).
