West Virginia's leaders--elected officials, business leaders, administrators of benevolence funding--attended the symposium held by the Education Task Force of West Virginia. Recommendations resulting from the symposium were: (1) to urge and support plans that focus on the individual student as the object of all reform efforts; (2) to support programs that develop a more cost effective education system; (3) to encourage teacher development at pre-service and in-service levels across the state; (4) to endorse and support the implementation of the West Virginia Board of Education's "1990 Targets for Public Education"; and (5) to support the efforts of the West Virginia Education Fund to establish and develop greater cooperation between the community, particularly the business community, and the public schools.
