The 1990 conference was designed to afford an opportunity to assess the dynamic developments in telecommunications during the 1980s and to gain perspectives on the ways in which telecommunications can most effectively be integrated into society during the 1990s. These proceedings contain more than 100 papers presented during sessions addressing the following topics: connectivity, marketplace issues, high definition television, major issues in world communication, the impact of telecommunications technology on intellectual property rights, regional communications in a global setting, the information revolution in the Pacific rim, regulatory issues, Pacific satellite proposals and developments, fiber optics technology and systems, broadband, Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology, mobile communication, distance learning technology and techniques, business applications, information providers, transborder applications, telecommunications and the travel industry, rural and remote applications of telecommunications, telework, and electronic trade.
