Anderson, David O., Ed. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1982
The author introduces a series of articles on the use of microcomputers in education, particularly with the disabled. (For related articles, see EC 142 960-962.) (Author)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Disabilities, Elementary Secondary Education, Microcomputers

Saljo, Roger, Ed. – Learning and Instruction, 1999
The seven articles of this theme issue deal with the use of computer-based interactive graphical representations. Studying their use will bring answers to users of static graphics in traditional paper-based media and those who plan instruction using graphical representations that allow semantically direct manipulation. (SLD)

Chronicle of Academic and Artistic Precocity, 1982
The chronicle describes programs and offers other information relevant to the education of gifted students. The following are among the articles and features contained in this issue: "Science Museums and Gifted Students" (about the role of science centers in the education of gifted students) by M. Hyman; tips for students on Advanced Placement…

Metrowich, T. P.; And Others – South African Journal of Science, 1984
Computer applications in South African schools are described in this five-paper collection of journal articles, which covers a range of projects from primary school and university elementary arithmetic to more sophisticated applications in physics, chemistry, and biochemistry. "Implementation of a System of Computer-Assisted Instruction in…

Herman, Eugene A., Ed. – College Mathematics Journal, 1991
To illustrate that the writing and utilizing of declarative language programs can be a straightforward task in a logic class, a logic system is defined and a truth-table generator and validator are implemented using PROLOG programing language. Also, using BASIC programing language, an example of a contour map is presented. (JJK)

Withrow, Frank B., Ed. – Volta Review, 1981
This special issue containing 10 articles addresses the application of technology, including educational media, telecommunication, and computers, to the education of hearing impaired students.
Descriptors: Captions, Computer Assisted Instruction, Educational Media, Educational Technology

Sperandeo-Mineo, R. M.; Tripi, G. – Physics Education, 1988
Studies the pressure and energy of particles interacting through a Lennard-Jones potential and correlates thermodynamical properties with system structural characteristics. Analyzes the relationships between computer simulated data and the van der Waals equation. (YP)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Assisted Instruction, Computer Simulation, Computer Uses in Education
Olds, Henry F., Jr.; And Others – Learning, 1983
Three articles discuss the use of computers in education: (1) "References for a Broader Vision" (Henry F. Olds, Jr.); (2) "What Every Teacher Should Know About Computer Simulations" (David Grady); and (3) "The Computer as Palette and Model Builder" (Interview of Alan Kay). (CJ)

Mathematics Teacher, 1992
Two trigonometry problems are presented. The first compares the graphs of the functions arcsin[sin(x)], arccos[cos(x)], and the identity function f(x)=x. The second, using the law of cosines, demonstrates that the solution of a triangle knowing two sides and the excluded angle is no longer ambiguous. (MDH)

Pleacher, David – Mathematics Teacher, 1991
Presented are student activities that involve two standard problems from geometry and calculus--the volume of a box and the bank shot on a pool table. Problem solving is emphasized as a method of inquiry and application with descriptions of the results using graphical, numerical, and physical models. (JJK)
Descriptors: Analytic Geometry, Calculus, Computer Assisted Instruction, Geometric Concepts

Mandl, Heinz, Ed. – International Journal of Educational Research, 1988
Issues connected with knowledge acquisition through the development of complex computer programs--Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs)--are discussed. The components of such a system and its applications are considered, including: elicitation of knowledge, tutoring with incomplete/uncertain knowledge, self-improving tutoring systems, and…
