One of a series, this report presents information on the receipt by women of support payments, both those which follow divorce and separation and those for children of never-married women. The report includes information on the award and actual receipt by women of child support and alimony. The report also provides data concerning receipt and type of property settlement for women who have been divorced at some point. Information included in the report is based on advance findings from the 1986 survey conducted by the Bureau of the Census through questions supplementing the April 1986 Current Population Survey. All women 18 years of age and older were within the sampling universe for the supplemental questions. In addition to 11 text tables, the report provides five detailed tables. Appendices include definitions and explanations of terms and computations, and technical information concerning the source and reliability of estimates. A newsletter summarizing the findings is included with the report. (RH)
