This publication deals with educational and employment opportunities for young foreigners in the Federal Republic of Germany. The following topics are covered: educational opportunities for young foreigners (West German efforts to promote integration and recruit workers from abroad); foreign nationals' children (integration into the German educational system, regional differences in proportions of foreigners in German schools, and achievement quotas of foreign children); foreign children in kindergarten (pedagogical concepts and kindergarten as an integration aid); the many possibilities available to foreign children at school (foreigners and compulsory school attendance, reintegration into the country of origin, intelligence tests, the Gesamtschule model, new teaching concepts for foreign children, model experiments to improve the education situation, and criticisms); efforts to remedy problems (the training situation with regard to foreigners, lower quotas of girls undergoing training, efforts to provide equal opportunities in German schools, vocational preparation designed especially for foreigners, training for disadvantaged youth); privileges of foreign students; future professional and employment opportunities for young foreigners, and the image of foreigners in the mass media.
