The 12 articles in this volume provide guides to issues concerning education and the economy and school to work and offer direction for future research. They are organized around three themes. Articles in the first section focus on long-standing questions associated with the economics of education: "Microeconomics of College Choice, Careers, and Wages" (Jere Behrman et al.); "Occupation-Specific Versus General Education and Training" (John Bishop); "School Resources and Student Outcomes" (David Card, Alan B. Krueger); and "Social Benefits of Education" (Nevzer Stacey). The second theme addresses current trends in educational policies and practices in the following articles: "The Disappointments of Success: Higher Education After World War II" (Marvin Lazerson); "Labor, Markets, and Educational Restructuring" (Robert Zemsky); and "Adult Enrollment and Educational Attainment" (Jerry A. Articles on the third theme examines the relationships between school and the workplace: "Employer Participation in School-to-Work Programs" (Peter Cappelli et al.); "Restructuring and Skill Needs: Will Firms Train?" (Harold Salzman); "Military Downsizing and the Career Prospects of Youths" (Stephen R. Barley); "The Benefits to Bridging Work and School" (Daniel Shapiro, Maria Iannozzi); and "On Connecting School and Work" (Ralph S. Saul).
